Australian actor and comedian Magda Szubanski, best known for her role on Kath & Kim, has shared a heartening health update with fans. The 64-year-old revealed she is now in remission after being diagnosed last year with stage four Mantle cell lymphoma, a fast-moving form of blood cancer.

In a statement filled with her signature humour, Szubanski quipped, “Seems I’m not dead!” She explained that although remission is not a cure, it offers hope for maintaining her health long-term.

“I’ve completed chemo and I am now in remission. So phew, big relief. It’s not a cure, but because I’ve got a good remission, that hopefully means that I will keep the cancer at bay for a good long time,” she said.

Humor and Optimism Shine Through

True to her comedic roots, Szubanski joked about her new short grey hairstyle, remarking that she wasn’t a natural blonde and that her hair “may have previously belonged to Napoleon.” Fans have praised her positivity and ability to approach her health journey with levity and courage.

Szubanski also expressed deep gratitude for the support she received from her fans. She called the outpouring of encouragement a “tsunami” that helped her emotionally and physically during her treatment.

“It really helped me not only emotionally, I think it really helped me physically too,” she said.

Continuing to Inspire

Magda Szubanski’s openness about her health struggles has resonated with fans worldwide, showing resilience and hope in the face of serious illness. Her update highlights the importance of community support and maintaining a positive outlook while navigating challenging health battles.

As she continues her recovery, fans of Kath & Kim and supporters of her advocacy work can celebrate this milestone and look forward to seeing Szubanski back in the spotlight, stronger than ever.
