Acclaimed filmmaker Ryan Coogler, best known for Black Panther, Creed, and most recently Sinners, has confirmed that he is deeply involved in developing a new adaptation of the legendary franchise—and that he has received extensive guidance from Vince Gilligan, one of the most important creative voices in The X-Files universe.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Coogler revealed that he recently spent several hours in a detailed Zoom conversation with Gilligan, who is currently drawing attention with his new project Pluribus. According to Coogler, the discussion was not casual advice, but a serious creative exchange.
“Vince gave me several hours of his time over Zoom and answered every question I had. I wrote everything down, and those notes are something I keep returning to,” Coogler said.
The director also made it clear that the project is no longer in a vague development phase.
“I’m fully in it right now,” he added, referring to the writing and planning process.
A Revival First Announced in 2023
The idea of a new The X-Files series was first publicly confirmed in 2023 by the show’s creator Chris Carter, who revealed that Ryan Coogler would be reimagining the franchise for a new generation.
