Guests who can afford it are encouraged to donate around $20 per meal, or more if they wish. Those who cannot pay are welcomed just the same. In exchange, they may volunteer their time by helping in the kitchen, washing dishes, or assisting staff.

What’s on the Menu?
JBJ Soul Kitchen is a family-run operation, and many recipes come from the Bon Jovi family’s Italian roots. One of the most famous dishes is a vegetarian eggplant lasagna, based on a 135-year-old Sicilian family recipe passed down from Bon Jovi’s grandmother.
Instead of pasta sheets, thin slices of eggplant are used, creating a lighter, flavorful dish that even meat lovers praise. Despite the simple appearance, visitors describe the food as unforgettable.
Praise and Political Controversy
While many locals admire Bon Jovi’s dedication, not everyone agrees with the project. Toms River Mayor Daniel Rodrick has publicly criticized the initiative, claiming it attracts homeless populations to New Jersey rather than solving the problem.
